Mark’s passion for sapphires is deeply rooted in his family’s legacy. Growing up in Australia’s sapphire-rich Rubyvale, he inherited his father’s love for gemstones. His family moved from the UK in the 1960s, settling in the Central Queensland Gemfields where his father spent nearly 30 years mining sapphires and other gems. It was here that Mark’s fascination with sapphires began.
Today, Mark’s journey has come full circle. He regularly returns to Queensland to hand-pick rough sapphires, continuing the tradition his father started. His close, personal relationships with independent miners give him access to some of the rarest and most exceptional sapphires available.
Back in his studios in London and Devon, Mark carefully hand-cuts and polishes each stone, ensuring that the natural beauty and unique characteristics of the sapphires shine through in every piece. This intimate connection with the mines and his expert craftsmanship result in truly one-of-a-kind jewellery that showcases the exceptional beauty of these Australian gems.
